Cheats Ghost Recon2
John Stone was a farmer, a captain in the militia and a knowledgeable businessman. He owned most of the real estate in the center of the town of, then, Unionville, now Ashland, Massachusetts. When he learned that railroad was to go through the town’s center, he decided to build a hotel by the tracks on his property that included a barn and cow yard. It’s said that, when the Railroad House opened in 1832 or 1834, (accounts vary). About three hundred people attended.
John managed the Railroad House for less than two years, then leased it to innkeepers. He continued to live on his land and died in 1858. At some point in time, the establishment was called the Ashland Inn. The building served as a way station for the slaves’ Underground Railroad during the Civil War. The structure deteriorated into poor condition over time. Leonard "Cappy" Fournier, who bought the building in 1976, is credited with helping to restore the building to its former glory and exploring its paranormal phenomena. He renamed it after its original owner.
John Stone’s Inn: Tragedies
According to lore, Stone, three locals and a traveling salesman going through town were playing cards. The card game turned nasty when the salesman was accused of cheating. Stone hit him over the head with the butt of his gun, intending to knock him out; however the blow killed the man. The group would hide the body and maintain secrecy. Allegedly the body was buried in the inn’s basement. Several owners did some haphazard digging and found nothing. A former employee’s niece was very sick and died while being tended to in the inn.
