Hostel Las Vegas Youth

After a six year wait, the movie version of C. D. Payne's Youth in Revolt gets wide release with Michael Cera and Portia Doubleday as the sex-obsessed teens Nick Twisp and Sheeni Saunders.

C. D. Payne's Absurdist Novel Finds an Audience

C. D. Payne is a semi-reclusive author living in California's wine country. In 1989, he began writing the first in a series of comic diaries featuring 14-year-old Nick Twisp. But it wasn’t until 1993 that Youth In Revolt: the Nick Twisp Diaries first appeared in print—as a self-published novel. Picked up by Doubleday in 1995, those first editions are now valuable collectibles, and the book’s underground and mainstream success drew the youth-demographic-obsessed minds at MTV and Fox Television to develop a TV series and film a pilot, but the show never went into production.

Film Studio's Wary

Several film studios were interesting creating a movie version, but the quirky, sex-obsessed main character convinced people that the film would need an R-rating, and be excluded from the cash-cow PG-13 market aimed at teenaged boys.
