PASSPORT Web to Host provides TCP/IP client access to IBM mainframes and AS/400 systems that require 3270 emulation via an ActiveX client on Internet Explorer. The difference between PASSPORT and other 3270 client emulators is the flexibility on the cost via connection pricing while providing a web-based 3270 emulator that is completely managed from the server side. The cost savings gained from switching from SNA to TCP/IP can go further by going with web-based 3270 software instead of installing clients on specific PCs.
PASSPORT Web to Host works by downloading an ActiveX application client on Internet Explorer from an application server (eg. IIS, Tomcat, Websphere, Weblogic, etc.) and running the 3270 emulator client inside the browser. Besides 3270 emulation, it can do VT100, VT220, TN5250E and SCO ANSI.
This 3270 emulator will work with all modern Windows operating systems. There are extensive options to add macro scripting for common host activities as well as keyboard mapping. The API is compatible with HLLAPI applications that were used with Attachmate, RUMBA, IBM, and Reflection. In particular, 32-bit HLLAPI code for RUMBA written in Visual C or Visual Basic will probably work on PASSPORT without any changes.
